The main purpose of this job is to ensure that Children in Need and Children and Young People who are Looked After by nominated authorities receive appropriate advocacy to ensure their voices are heard and to support their participation in issues that affect them. To have lead responsibility for the development, implementation and delivery of advocacy and children’s rights services in a given area.
The duties for this position are as follows:
· Carrying out their duties the post holder will be particularly aware of the requirements of Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child which deals with the right of any child or young person to be consulted in decision making and to be “provided the opportunity to be heard in any judicial and administrative proceedings affecting the child or young person, either directly or through a representative or an appropriate body in a manner consistent with the procedural rules of national law.”
· Assist in the development of policies and strategies, which facilitate the participation of children and young people who are in need or looked after, in the development of public services and the agency. TO enable them to contribute and be involved in the planning, development, delivery and evaluation of services and policies concerning young people and practices.
· Supervise NYAS Children’s Rights Worker (CAMHs) and manage advocacy and participation service for young people using CAMH’s services in Surrey.
· Supervise Senior Advocate and manage advocacy and participation service for eight residential schools throughout the county.
· Supervise NYAS Participation Worker and support opportunities for young people’s participation throughout the county production of Wazzup magazine.
· Manage project office in line with agency requirements.
Applicants will need the following qualifications and experience for this position:
· Educated to degree standard or equivalent.
· A relevant professional qualification such as, Social Work or Youth & Community Diploma or another qualification associated with the area of work.
· Experience of working with children and young people who are looked after or in need.
