You role will be to discharge the authority’s responsibilities under the Children Act 1989 and other relevant legislation with respect to children in need, particularly those in need of protection and those looked after by the authority.

 

You will manage a caseload of children and families contributing to and participating in comprehensive assessments of need, working intensively with families and children and young people to reduce the need for accommodation or care processing. Planning, implementing and terminating involvements on cases, which will include Looked After Children, Children in Need, Children subject to supervision orders or Family Assistance orders. You will assist social workers with specific tasks related to their casework; this may include for example supervising contact and access to files.

 

You must have knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and other relevant legislation, regulations and guidance such as new assessment framework. You should be familiar of the range of services, which are available to children and families and of the organisational framework within with they are provided. You must also have knowledge of child development and of family functioning and dynamics. Furthermore you be aware of methods of social work intervention.

 

It is essential that you have at least one years appropriate and relevant experience of children and families social work within a statutory, voluntary or independent sector organisation. A relevant social care qualification e.g. NVQ Level 3 would be preferable.

General Purpose of the Job:

 

To provide a flexible, responsive service to young people and their families/carers. The young people will either be at risk of offending, or will have already committed offences.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

 

·          To undertake ‘risk’ assessments in relation to the young person vulnerability. To provide support to the young person and their family or carers.

·          To ensure that planning meeting, reviews for the young person take place in line with the Children Act 1989 and that of National Standards.

·          Undertake a holistic assessment of children, families and carers using the relevant assessment framework, and involving other professionals/agencies as necessary.

·          Develop and participate in relevant care plans. These plans will be informed by an analysis of need and/or risk and will identify desired outcomes within clearly defined timescales.

·          Ensure that service users views are fully recorded during the assessment process and wherever possible are reflected in the subsequent case planning.

·          Prepare and present reports in a clear and logical way, and contribute to multi-agency conferences and meetings as appropriate.

·          Develop and implement child protection plans.

·          Lead on the development and implementation of complex child protection plans.

·          Lead on complex assessments with children, young people and their families/carers where there are specific concerns requiring a high level of specialist involvement.

·          Use a range of interventions, as agreed with the line manager, to engage the child, family and/or carers in working towards the desired outcomes of the Care Plan. The range includes one to one work, group work, supporting self help groups and providing advice.

·          Co-ordinate and delivery direct work support to children, young people and families/carers who have complex needs.

·          Practice at a high level in a relevant specialist area of work.

·          Ensure that the child/young person is fully consulted at all times in the development and implementation of their care plan, particularly prior to any reviews or placement meetings.

·          Ensure that the child’s family and carers are fully consulted at all times in the development and implementation of their care plan.

We urgently require a Qualified Social Worker with qualification levels 2 & 3 to join a busy adults division working with clients with learning difficulties based in Enfield.

You will be required to provide assessment, care management and social work services to users and carers arising out of the council's duties and powers under legislation, Council and group policy.  To work in accordance with the guidelines set out by local management and to make appropriate use of Group and Independent resources.

Your roll will also be to manage, monitor and review care palns involving users and carers and liasing with other workers and agencies as appropriate.  To be managed and receive supervision from the immediate line manager and to be assessed against agreed standards and targets.

In particular you should undertake the following.

(a) To assess the needs of people who are disabled or who otherwise may require Community Care Services, on request and to provide Care Plans and arrange for the provision of services where the Groups Eligibility Criteria are met.

(b) To investigate alleged neglect, ill treatment or abuse of vulnerable adults and to make enquiries as to the need to provide services to such vulnerable adults, subject to Group Eligibility Criteria.

(c) To undertake the preparation of reports, statements and other such legal documents as may be required in relation to Guardianship applications (under the Mental Health Act 1983), applications to the court of protection and applications under Section 47 of the National Assistance Act 1948.

We are currently seeking an experienced Qualified Social Worker to join Haringey Council to work within the Adoption Team.  The successful applicant will be centrally based with specific responsibiltiy for the recruitment, training, assessment and support of adoptive families, family finding for children in need of adoptive placements, and counselling of adults in relation to adoption.

(a) To assist in the recruitment, training, development, support,assessment and review of prospective adopters.

(b) To assist in the process of matching the needs of the children with the resources available in the Family Placement Service.

(c) To offer advice and guidance to Districts and members of the public on adoption matters.

(d) To assist in local and national publicity campaigns and to pursue opportunities to heighten local awareness of the need for family placement, and in particular adoption.  This would include speaking to interested groups and the preparation of written articles.

(e) To respond to any enquiries made from the public either via the duty service on the telephone or in writing.

(f) To assess prospective carers both by the use of individual and group assessments and to develop and provide training programmes for such carers.

(g) To prepare and present clear and comprehensive assessment reports, both initial, and for continuing approval, to relevant panels.

(h) To initiate and participate in the training and preparation courses run for adopters.

(i) To provide counselling to adopted adults.
